1. What You Are Buying
A HushChip card is a pre-flashed NFC JavaCard smartcard running the open-source SeedKeeper applet on an EAL6+ certified secure element. It stores secrets — seed phrases, passwords, and other sensitive data — protected by a PIN code you set.
HushChip is not a hardware wallet. It does not sign transactions, connect to blockchain networks, or manage funds. It is a secure storage device for sensitive information.
HushChip cards are not manufactured by Satochip S.R.L. They run the same open-source applet (licensed under AGPLv3) on independently sourced, certified hardware. HushChip is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with Satochip.
2. PIN and Security
When you set up your card, you choose a PIN (4–16 characters). This PIN is the only way to access the secrets stored on the card.
There is no PIN recovery. If you forget your PIN and exhaust all entry attempts, the card locks permanently. The data on it cannot be retrieved — by you, by us, or by anyone.
It is your responsibility to remember your PIN. HushChip cannot help you recover a locked card.
3. Your Responsibility
You are solely responsible for:
- Choosing and remembering a secure PIN
- Maintaining backups of your secrets (the app supports encrypted card-to-card backup)
- Deciding what to store on the card
- Understanding the risks of self-custody of cryptocurrency or other sensitive data
HushChip does not provide financial advice. Storing cryptocurrency seed phrases on any device carries risk. You should understand these risks before use.
4. Compatibility
HushChip cards are compatible with the SeedKeeper protocol. They work with the HushChip companion app and other SeedKeeper-compatible software.
HushChip cards may not pass the "Verify Card" authenticity check in Satochip's own applications, as they are manufactured on different hardware. This does not affect the card's functionality or security.
5. Open Source Software
The applet running on your HushChip card is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPLv3).
The full source code is available at: github.com/hushchip
By purchasing a HushChip card, you receive a copy of AGPLv3-licensed software. You are entitled to access the source code, modify it, and redistribute it under the same licence. Original copyright notices are preserved in the source repository.
